When our wants start exceeding our needs, we have to be careful to see if we are in the flesh or in the Spirit. It’s ok to have things as long as things don’t have you.

The curse of coveting reveals our dissatisfaction with God’s Provision.

Don’t seek greater things at the risk of losing your soul in those things.

Worrying and being anxious are signs of our hearts being aligned towards things rather then the Lord.

God wants us to strongly desire the Kingdom first and He will give it to us along with all that we need!

We should by comparison hate covetousness and anything that comes against a strong desire to serve the Lord.

Love others as Jesus has loved you.  Show grace to others as Jesus has shown grace to you.  Build others up in Christ as His Spirit has built you up in Christ.

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, "You shall not covet."

5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."  6 So we may boldly say:
  "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?"

9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

13 Then one from the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me."
14 But He said to him, "Man, who made Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?"  15 And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses."
16 Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: "The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully.  17 And he thought within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?'  18 So he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods.  19 And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry."'  20 But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?'
21 "So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

4 Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease!  5 Will you set your eyes on that which is not?  For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven.

22 Then He said to His disciples, "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on.  23 Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing.  24 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds?  25 And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?  26 If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest?

27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  28 If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?
29 "And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind.  30 For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things.  31 But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.
32 "Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.  33 Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys.  34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

3 If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, 4 he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, 5 useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.

A ruler who lacks understanding is a great oppressor,
But he who hates covetousness will prolong his days.

12 But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption, 13 and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you, 14 having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children.

11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. 18 Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, 19 storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

• Long to bless and serve others in the Lord- Church (4:3)
• Same mind in the Lord (4:2)
• Rejoice in the Lord. (4:4)
• Working to tell others the good news- serving God and sharing the Gospel (4:1-3)
• Being gentle and considerate in all you do. (4:5)
• Praying for everything. Anxious for nothing.  (4:6)
• Thankful in everything. (4:6)
• Peace comes and guides our hearts in the Lord.(4:7)
• Fix your thoughts on what is true, lovely, good report. (4:8)
• Reach up to good examples in the Lord. (4:9)
• Be content with little or with a lot. (4:12)
• Be concerned about others needs.  Financially and practically. (4:14-19)
• Pray and trust God to meet your needs. Trust in Christ to do what you need when you need it! (4:13)

34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
