Our History

The Bridge is a non-denominational church that grew out of the roots of the Calvary Chapel movement. Calvary Chapel began in the 1960s with an explosion called "The Jesus Revolution" that has continued for over half a century. After many years of ministry in many Calvary Chapel venues, Pastor David McGee longed to see an expository Bible-teaching church planted where he was born and raised. His family had lived in the Triad area of NC for over 285 years. With a simple faith in God and in response to His clear call, the McGee's started a Bible study in their home in the fall of 2001. On the very first night of the study, two neighborhood kids received the Lord as their Savior! Pastor David also worked for Pastor Greg Laurie and the Harvest Crusades. It was during this time God blessed and knitted a core group of believers together. In October of 2002, this small group of 15-20 believers rented a storefront facility at 1210-B East Mountain Street in Kernersville, expecting God to continue blessing them.

We moved into 16,000 square feet of a former manufacturing building at 365 West Mountain Street in November 2003. In March 2004, we needed to add a second service to accommodate the growth. The Lord continued to bring people in such numbers that we realized we needed more space. So when God provided the opportunity for us to occupy the entire 37,000 sq. ft. facility, we signed a five-year lease and began converting the rest of the building into much-needed rooms and a new, larger sanctuary. The conversion of the building from a manufacturing plant into a church was an ongoing process as we continued to grow.

We established Cross the Bridge Ministries (initially as the REACH and TEACH radio and cable TV programs) to reach our own communities with the good news of Jesus Christ. It began to grow as our services and Cross the Bridge with David McGee expanded to the Internet. Soon, the television and radio programs expanded to national and international platforms with hundreds of stations. Pastor David shared his testimony, shared the Gospel, and taught God's Word on local, national, and international television broadcasts. Pastor David's first book, Cross the Bridge to Life, enjoyed a nationwide release and strong sales.

God continued to bless The Bridge at home, and we needed more parking, bathrooms, and classrooms. In short, we needed a bigger building! God, in His timing, provided us with a wonderful 14-acre property at 1080 Snow Bridge Lane. in Kernersville, NC. In October 2010, we moved into the amazing facility and new home. God led Pastor David McGee and the board of directors to adopt the new name, The Bridge, to establish our identity more firmly as a non-denominational church ministry that operates under the authority and direction of the Lord Jesus Christ. Cross the Bridge Outreach Ministries became a significant part of our efforts to reach and teach the whole world until He comes. Changing the church name from Calvary Chapel of the Triad to The Bridge more closely associated our home church with our outreach efforts for the Kingdom, helping build a bridge from man's sinful state to the eternal life that only Jesus can offer.

Today, no building can hold the ministry that God began growing here. People who began their adventure with the Lord in our previous buildings are found in many other places in our town other communities across the USA and other countries. They are serving God, and bringing the life-changing message of Jesus to people where they live.

We praise God that He has done such a mighty work here, across the country, and worldwide. Many people have come to know Jesus as Savior. People have had their faith renewed, marriages healed and their walk with the Lord restored. Today, there continues excitement in what the Lord continues to do as we serve Him and stay true to His Word. Our goal still remains simple and true. We will reach people and teach them the Bible until the whole world hears.

We invite you to participate in this exciting time and see what God can do in your life, family, and community. God's Word with God's Spirit changing God's people - it's just that simple.
